On August 14th, the National Climate Center released the assessment results of the impact of Typhoon Lekima. It was found that Typhoon Lekima, a super typhoon, was the strongest typhoon to make landfall in China this year. The duration of its stay on land was the sixth longest since 1949. The combined intensity index of wind and rain was the largest since 1961. More than ten provinces and municipalities were affected, and the direct economic losses were the second highest since 2000.

       "Leichma" is the strongest typhoon to make landfall in China this year and the third strongest typhoon to hit Zhejiang since 1949, trailing only Typhoon "Samu" of 0608 and Typhoon "5612" of 5612. "Leichma" remained at a tropical storm or above intensity for a duration of 44 hours while on land in China. After making landfall in Zhejiang, it continued to move northward, affecting Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Anhui, Shandong, Henan, Hebei, Tianjin, Liaoning, and Jilin provinces (municipalities).

       The assessment results show that the area at risk of medium or higher-level typhoon disasters caused by "Lihirah" covers an area of 248,000 square kilometers. "Lihirah" had strong wind and rain intensity, and its affected area is located in the economically developed and densely populated eastern region of China. Moreover, the coastal areas in the north have relatively weak defense capabilities against typhoon disasters, resulting in severe disaster losses.

       According to statistics from the Ministry of Emergency Management, as of August 14, 2019, Typhoon Lekima had caused 140.24 million people to be affected, 56 deaths, 14 disappearances, 15,000 houses to collapse, 1.137 million hectares of crops to be affected, among which 93,500 hectares were completely destroyed, and direct economic losses amounted to 51.53 billion yuan.
